Chapora Fort

Anjuna and Vagator, Goa, India

The ruins of a red laterite Portuguese fort from 1617, set on a hill above the Chapora river mouth with views over Vagator and Anjuna.

Our take

The climb is short and the reward is a wide view of the coast, which makes the ramparts a popular place to watch the sun go down. Little is left of the fort itself beyond walls and the heads of two escape tunnels, so come for the view rather than the history. Go before dark and bring a torch for the walk down.

Best for: Sunset views over Vagator
