Where to eat late in Mumbai

Chaat on Chowpatty, gola on Juhu, a round-the-clock café at the Taj and kitchens open until 1:30am: Mumbai's best late eating.

Mumbai eats late. Dinner at 10pm is normal, and there is always somewhere still serving after midnight. These are the places we have checked, from beach stalls to hotel cafés.

Street food by the sea

At the northern end of Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty has a row of stalls selling chaat, bhelpuri, pav bhaji, kulfi and ice cream. Come for sunset, eat, then walk south along the seafront as the lights come on.

In the western suburbs, Juhu Beach is busiest in the evening, when vendors sell bhelpuri, pav bhaji, pani puri and gola, crushed ice with flavoured syrup. Stall hours vary, so treat both beaches as evening rather than very-late options.

Sit-down dinners until 1:30am

The Bombay Canteen in Lower Parel keeps its kitchen and bar open from noon to 1:30am every day, with a menu that travels across India’s regions. Reservations are taken on WhatsApp.

In Bandra, House of Nomad at Taj Lands End serves sushi and tapas-style plates with cocktails until 1:30am. In Worli, the rooftop bar AER has international small plates until the same time, with a strict dress code and a 21-and-over door.

After midnight in Colaba

Shamiana, the all-day café at the Taj Mahal Palace, is listed as open 24 hours on the hotel’s restaurant pages, though one listing on the same site says 7am to 1am. Call ahead before a very late visit. The menu is broad enough for families and mixed groups, and the Gateway of India is just across the road.

Tips

  • Traffic is heavy in the early evening, so a late dinner is often easier than an early one.
  • Auto-rickshaws do not operate in South Mumbai. Use a taxi or a ride-hailing app.
  • Smart casual is expected at the hotel restaurants and bars.
